keepin up with the flow

So much has happened since the last post...Jay Johnson came out to the Creek and did a great job with his presentation...if nothing else spurring some good conversation around the tables...

The October 15th Taize service was amazing with Archbishop Njongokulu Ndungane of South Africa there...the back of the church was illumined by candle light...and icons were set up all around the space...silence and chant filled the air...it will happen again for sure...

And this past week, on Monday, Bishop Marc came to visit to talk about drugs...but not the, "Drugs are bad" kind of talk, but the, "psychotropic drugs can lead to valid mystical experiences in your life but what do those experiences mean?" kind of talk. Check the Contra Costa Times version and see what people there said...

Coming up in a couple of weeks, a work crew heads to the Monument Crisis Center to help them prepare to get 1,000 Thanksgiving meals to families that might otherwise go hungry. If you would like to serve with us, email pbrochard@stpaulswc.org...

Then see you on the 26th of November for Richard March, for Rock 'n' Roll night, to listen to Richard play "God & Country" and talk about faith, music and the creative spirit that feeds both. See you then...

First up? Sex, of course...

October 8th, 7p, Pyramid Brewing Company

The Rev. Dr. Jay Johnson
Priest, Professor, Senior Director, Academic Research & Resources, Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies at the Pacific School of Religion

“The Erotic God: Sex as Spiritual Practice”

Why is Christianity perceived as a “sex-negative” religion? Is “following the rules” the only link between God and sex? Can our experience of sexuality give us any insight into God and Christian faith? Questions like these have prompted a wide variety of approaches to religion and sexuality over the last fifty years. Jay Johnson will offer some reasons why sex and sexuality are so highly charged in religious circles and suggest some ways in which sexual intimacy can be considered a spiritual practice for Christians.

Our series is about to flow...
